The Best Coffee Shops in Placer County: An Auburn Local’s Guide to Great Coffee & Community

More Than Coffee: Why Local Businesses Matter

f there’s one thing I’ve learned from spending my days showing homes, meeting clients, and exploring the communities I love throughout Placer County, it’s this: the best way to get to know a community is to slow down and experience it like a local.

And in Auburn, that often starts with coffee.

Auburn has developed an impressive local coffee scene, with everything from craft coffee bars and local roasters to cozy cafés where you can grab breakfast, meet a friend, or spend a Saturday morning wandering Old Town. In fact, Auburn’s growing food and drink scene has recently been getting attention as the town continues to establish itself as more than just a stop along the way to Tahoe.

As a local real estate professional, I’m constantly asked about the places that make Placer County special. So, whether you're a longtime Auburn resident, new to the area, or considering making Placer County home, here are some of my favorite coffee shops in Auburn, CA and beyond.

☕ 1. The Pour Choice — Old Town Auburn

177 Sacramento Street, Auburn

If you're looking for a coffee shop that feels distinctly Auburn, put The Pour Choice at the top of your list.

Located in the heart of Old Town Auburn, The Pour Choice combines craft coffee, food, beer and wine in a unique space that's become a popular gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. The shop describes itself as Auburn's first and only craft coffee bar and taproom, with coffee sourced from sister roasting company Remedy Supply Co.

It's also a great place to experience one of my favorite things about Auburn: you can grab a cup of coffee and then spend the rest of your morning exployring the historic downtown.

Best for: Coffee dates, brunch, meeting friends, exploring Old Town Auburn and weekend outings.

☕ 2. Depoe Bay Coffee Roasters

893 High Street, Auburn

For the person who takes their coffee seriously, Depoe Bay is one to know.

This local coffee shop and roaster has been part of Auburn's coffee culture for years and offers more than just a morning caffeine fix. It's also a full breakfast-and-lunch spot, making it an easy choice when coffee needs to come with something substantial.

One of the things I love about local coffee shops like Depoe Bay is that they feel connected to the community. You're not simply grabbing coffee and leaving—you're becoming part of the rhythm of the neighborhood.

Best for: Fresh-roasted coffee, breakfast, lunch and a classic local café experience.

☕ 3. Missions Coffee

2405 Grass Valley Highway, Auburn

Missions Coffee is a great North Auburn option when you're looking for a comfortable place to meet a friend, grab breakfast or settle in with a cup of coffee.

The café has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere with plenty of seating and offers coffee, breakfast items, light lunch options and specialty drinks. Local recommendations frequently mention it as a comfortable spot for meeting friends and spending a little time rather than simply grabbing coffee to go.

Best for: Meeting friends, weekend coffee runs and a casual North Auburn stop.

☕ 4. The Baker and the Cakemaker

1102 Lincoln Way, Auburn

For those mornings when you're craving coffee and something delicious from the bakery, The Baker and the Cakemaker is a must-visit.

This artisan bakery and café focuses on scratch-made breads, pastries, breakfast and lunch, along with locally roasted coffee.

It's also another great example of what makes Auburn's downtown special: independently owned businesses where you can grab something delicious and then continue exploring the surrounding historic district.

Best for: Coffee + pastries, breakfast, lunch and satisfying your sweet tooth.

What About the Rest of Placer ?

While Auburn is home to some of my favorite coffee spots, one of the things I love about living and working in Placer County is how much variety you have within a relatively short drive.

From Roseville and Rocklin to Lincoln, Loomis and beyond, there are locally owned cafés, specialty roasters and neighborhood coffee shops everywhere.

Placer County has become home to a growing coffee culture, with current local lists highlighting spots including Shady Coffee & Tea, Bloom Coffee & Kitchen, The Pour Choice and others.

For me, that's part of what makes this area so appealing. You can spend Saturday morning sipping coffee in historic Auburn, head down the hill for shopping and lunch, or find a neighborhood café closer to home—all without giving up that sense of community.

As a Realtor, I spend a lot of time talking about what makes a house a home.

And while things like square footage, bedrooms, lot size and the kitchen absolutely matter, I think the community surrounding your home matters just as much.

Where do you grab your morning coffee?

Where do you meet a friend?

Where do you take your family on a Saturday morning?

Where do you recognize the person behind the counter because you've been there so many times?

Those little routines are what turn a location into your community.

That's one of the reasons I love working in Auburn and throughout Placer County. We have beautiful homes, incredible outdoor recreation and stunning foothill scenery—but we also have the locally owned restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques and small businesses that give each community its own personality.
